Nik is dedicated to building more connected, inclusive, and creatively vibrant communities. With over 15 years of experience spanning professional theatre, nonprofit leadership, and public engagement, his work lives at the intersection of creativity, equity, and civic life.
Currently Nik serves as a Community Affairs Coordinator at TriMet, where he leads engagement for the expansion of bus rapid transit in Portland’s western suburbs, strengthening relationships between public agencies and the people they serve. Previously, Nik was the Producing Artistic Director of Bag&Baggage Productions, where he guided the organization through a transformational period that expanded access, deepened partnerships, and centered equity in operations and programming. In that role, he reimagined structures, fostered new pathways for artist and audience engagement, and increased foundation support by over 100%.
A longtime advocate for representation and opportunity in the arts, Nik served as Program Director for the Black Theatre Coalition, developing national fellowship and apprenticeship programs that placed over 30 BIPOC professionals in Broadway and regional producing and creative roles. He has also collaborated with institutions such as the Goodman Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, and Omaha Performing Arts, and his creative portfolio spans directing, producing, and casting for both stage and screen.
As a producer and director, Nik has helmed productions and workshops including Red Velvet & The Glass Menagerie (Bag&Baggage), empty spaces (AGE in the Arts), and Ella Enchanted: A New Musical (Omaha Theater Company). He is the co-writer and director of IS YOU IS, an original musical selected for the inaugural DCASE Studio Residency program, and the creator and host of THE COME UP with Nik Whitcomb, a talk show and podcast highlighting artists and changemakers.
Nik’s creative producing extends beyond the stage and into the community. He is the co-founder and Festival Organizer for the Hillsboro Film Festival and serves on numerous boards and committees, including Oregon Children's Theatre, Washington County's Advisory Council on Racial Equity, and the Black Advisory Business Council Scholarship Fund.
Nik is a Theatre Worker You Should Know (American Theatre Magazine, 2020) and a recipient of multiple Omaha Entertainment & Arts Awards. He holds a BA in Theatre from Creighton University, where he concentrated in performance and directing, and will begin his Master of Urban and Regional Planning at Portland State University in 2026 building on his long commitment to shaping bold spaces for intentional connection and exploring how our systems can better support healthy, equitable development.
